AFRICAN AMERICAN AND LABOR

A curated dialogue with workers at Community Worship Center.

In the thick of temptation, it’s easy to feel like we’re the only ones fighting through a jungle of evil thoughts and desires. But the Apostle Paul reminded the Corinthian church:

“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”
— 1 Corinthians 10:13 (NIV)

The good news is this — you are not alone in your temptations. Every struggle we face is common to humanity. Yet Satan, whom Jesus called “the father of lies,” loves to whisper that our battles are unique — that no one else could understand what we’re going through. But nothing could be further from the truth.

When we believe that lie, shame begins to grow. It isolates us, makes us doubt God’s love, and tempts us to give up. But God’s Word reminds us that even Jesus Himself understands our struggles:

“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet He did not sin.”
— Hebrews 4:15 (NIV)

Jesus faced the same temptations we do, yet He overcame them all. That victory made Him the perfect Savior — one who not only redeems us but also strengthens us in our moments of weakness.

Still, we must remain alert, because the enemy is persistent:

“Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.”
— 1 Peter 5:8–9 (ESV)

So take heart — you are not the only one. Every believer faces temptation, but we serve a faithful God who provides strength, grace, and a way of escape.

When temptation comes, remember:

You are not alone.

God is faithful.

And Jesus understands.

LET US PRAY!
Lord, thank You for reminding us that we are not alone in our struggles. Help us to stand firm in faith, to resist the enemy’s lies, and to trust in Your strength when temptation comes. Thank You for being our refuge, our deliverer, and our victory.
In Jesus’ Amen!
